NHS Lothian acknowledges the requirement to have measures in place to effectively manage electrical low voltage systems as part of its responsibility as an employer for providing a safe working environment for its employees and others affected by its work. This policy will help NHS Lothian to reinforce its commitment to the health, safety, and welfare of its employees and stakeholders and ensure measures are in place to
– Comply with current legislation and guidance including:

- Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
- BS7671:2018 | IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition (2022)
- Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992
- SHTM 06-01A: Electrical Services Supply and Distribution – Design Considerations
- SHTM 06-01B: Electrical Services Supply and Distribution – Operational Management
- SHTM 06-02: Electrical Safety Guidance for Low Voltage Systems
– Implement operating procedures to define how effective management of electrical low voltage systems is to be achieved.
– Provide adequate training and awareness information to employees who work on electrical low voltage systems, or manage / supervise those who do, relevant to their level of responsibility.
– Review this policy in line with NHS Lothian policy review guidelines; in the event of an adverse event related to electrical low voltage; or as a result of any relevant change to legislation.
