Executive Summary
NHS Lothian acknowledges the requirement to have measures in place to effectively manage pressure systems, as part of its responsibility as an employer for providing a safe work environment for its employees and others affected by its work.
This policy will help NHS Lothian to reinforce its commitment to health, safety and welfare of its employees and stakeholders by ensuring that controls are in place to:
- comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, and the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 and the Approved Code of Practice and Guidance (L122);
- comply with current Scottish Health Technical Memorandum (SHTM) 08-08 Pressure Systems;
- implement operational procedures for the effective management of pressure systems; provide adequate training and awareness information to employees who work on pressure systems, or who manage or supervise those who do, relevant to their level of responsibility; and
- review this policy in line with NHS Lothian policy review guidelines, in the event of an adverse event related to pressure systems, or as a result of changes to any related legislation.
