Records Management

Executive Summary

NHS Lothian is required to comply with the Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011 and, under the terms of the legislation, to submit a Records Management Plan to the Keeper of the National Records of Scotland. Accurate, timely and reliable records are essential for the smooth, efficient and effective running of our health services. The Records Management Plan sets out how NHS Lothian will manage its public records in accordance with the 15 Elements of the Keeper’s Model Plan, but it also establishes a records management framework that will enable the Board to deliver significant benefits. These include greater efficiency and effectiveness, delivering savings in administrative costs; help to support the achievement of business objectives and improve service delivery and underpin business resilience. Good records management is vital in ensuring that the Board continues to manage all of its records for the benefit of patients, carers, NHS staff (clinical and non-clinical) and the wider local community
