New Interventional Procedures

Executive Summary

This policy sets out the approach which should be taken to the introduction of new interventional procedures in NHS Lothian. The Lothian policy sits within the context of guidance from the Scottish Government DL(2017)10. This guidance references the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Interventional Procedures Programme (IPP) and describes how Scottish Health Boards should interact with that programme. This policy is based on the assumption that most new interventional procedures will be performed on a planned basis but allows flexibility for unscheduled and emergency procedures. The process, when new interventional procedures are performed as part of a formal research study, is described.

This policy should be read in conjunction with the NHS Lothian Consent Policy.
